Should the Matildas play double header in November?
| Should the Matildas play in a double header in November when the Socceroos play the South American team as they go for glory?
Imagine this:
Matildas vs USA/Germany
followed by
Socceroos vs Sth America opponent
at big name stadium, with weeks and weeks of pre-game advertising and promotion, both games televised Australia wide.
Now that would be something
This isnt just go all out mad with double headers until they lose value.
Because what we don't want is them losing meaning, or being viewed as curtain raisers. The crowd need to appreciate the Matildas when they play (as does the media!)
But if the Matildas are to play Germany or USA for the first time on home soil since (?) with the current crop of players, then that is a must see. And if it is followed by a full house watching the Socceroos take on one half of the final hurdle, then all the better.
What do you want for pre match entertainment? Guy Sebastian and a few back flipping dogs, or the elite Australian Women's team taking on the world's best? |
